The Myth of EFT

myth-busted When you first heard of Tapping or EFT, have you thought that it looks a little weird? If you are like me, you probably did your first round with lots of skepticism. Your curiosity was what kept you tapping, isn’t it?

And then, as if by magic, you get a result, amazing result. Headache is gone, the pain you had for years, maybe traumatic memory or chronic fear…. gone… no more… Freedom!

You start believing in it so much that you try it on every possible thing and it feels so right, it feels perfect. You share it with your friends and family, you even start a little “EFT biz” and call yourself an Expert after doing first 15 sessions or reading a book, or watching the video. It’s just simply fascinating!

… I would like to end the story here and say that all EFT-ers lived happily ever after…

Gary Craig’s daughter Tina, busted my myth of EFT with the simple statement:
“EFT is very powerful, but it’s not magic!”

Tapping is just a tool, a vehicle, a method that indeed creates remarkable changes.

The myth of happiness is that I only have to have this ______ (thing, person, house, money) and everything will be all right.
The myth of EFT is that I only have to TAP on this ________ (issue, emotion, memory, behavior) and everything will be all right.

Although I am someone who taps every day, I am more than a tapper. There is more to life. And there is more to you.

When we buy into the myth that everything will be ok “if” or “when” I tap on everything, we forget that life is colorful and in order to really thrive and live a Delicious life, we are allowed to experience life and make mistakes or we can easily get sucked into the closed box. We can stop learning and develop the limiting belief “I am the expert”. (It might sound as a cute affirmation, yet, if not used properly, it has a trap in it.)

The trap of “The expert” is very subtle and feels so good to the ego. (Look at what happened to James Arthur Ray). There are gurus that are “saving” your relationships, while they have been single ever since their last divorce years ago, there are marketers that are selling expensive products on how to heal certain problem, while they are still having that same problem, there are broke ones that will help you make more money…

And while I believe that indeed, tapping can help you with all of those circumstances; it is obvious that “tapping only” will not.

Good, quality life requires your full participation. If you have craving, tapping can help – but if you are hungry – eat. If you are tired, tapping can help – but napping can too. If you are lonely, tapping can cheer you up – so can dancing with your friends.

Look at the situation and see all the ways that are to be covered:
- emotional
- physical
- practical

The choice to tap, is an excellent choice, that will make no lasting difference whatsoever if you don’t embrace your life as well. If you only tap on your “money issues” and never make the first step to ask for the raise, or contribute to the world with your talents, mere EFT will just be “weird tapping”.

Even Gary Craig himself said many times that the way of tapping is just one level and that as the time goes by, the planet will became more subtle and we will get results without tapping at all. I was in the audience as he was sharing that in his workshop. Someone asked him about his personal life, assuming that he is tapping all day long. He laughed and shared that he also has a life and is allowing himself to watch “mindless TV” too. (Yup, there were some sighs in the room that expressed shock and disbelief)

EFTLogo2 Gary Craig is retiring and will be closing his website and EFT shop. Most of his DVDs are already sold out for good. If you don’t know Gary and want to see him in action, click here to check out what is left in EFT store.

I am inviting you to USE your own common sense and take part in the magic of life.

Hundreds of years before EFT was invented, people were overcoming amazing obstacles, growing and contributing to the world. Now, with the power of Tapping (which I am so grateful for) we can do so much more. If we expand our mind, our thinking and join in with the whole heart.

Yes, I am pro tapping.
And yes, I am also pro thinking… pro living.

Fanatic “tapping-only” without life is not Delicious to me.

Life is for living, Liv Delicious!

Great reminder that EFT is a tool to be integrated with other healthy choices and lifestyles — not magic. Thank you.

I totally agree, whilst tapping is an amazing tool and has given me a lot of personal relief from my own issues and negative beliefs, I also believe it is just the start. Life is a journey of exploration and experience and no one thing is ‘The Answer’. I love what you say about dancing with friends so often we look for a miracle cure to all that ails us, when often all we need do is engage with life and the people around us. Thank you for your insightful article.

I agree 100 percent. Great article Helena!
No one thing is the be all, cure all. There is no such thing because life will continue to have ups , downs and new experiences. Tools help us grow and evolve along the way .

A good reminder. Nothing is everything but EFT is a great start to new places and coping with old ones!

You are so right Helena, EFT, Low of Atraction, affirmations or positive thinking can’t do nothing for you if you don’t take some action in the direction that you want to acomplice. That are only tools that make it easyer to acompliche you goal. They make it easyer to get up and go if you fall along the way. They are great tools but don’t rely only on those tools, take ACTION.

    BRAVO!
I see mainly two type of reactions to tapping, eighter disbelief and dismissal or a bit missionary aproach to people that yet do not know it…
But its just a great tool, that needs to be appreciated and thought to others.I wait of the times that we use it as f.ex oral hygiene, everyday, not thinking too much of it, just doing it, whenever needed.

Great article Helena! Life is sure a balance of everything. EFT happens to be one of the way to do things. I am definitely in agreement with you. Positive affirmation without any action is the start of an illusion anyway. Even though EFT is an awesome healing tool, I personally think the best one is when one starts to take the responsibility for himself/herself. Keep those delicious articles coming girl!

Helena, I love your common sense approach to tapping – and to life!

The hype around the “one minute wonders” made us all a little giddy about the possibility for EFT to dramatically change our life – with no effort on our own part!

After five years of using EFT daily for self-help and working with hundreds of clients, I’m getting a little more hip to the tenacity of the human ego and identity.

Like you say, it usually takes more than just EFT to make big life changes! And is that such a bad thing?

I love the adventure and the possibilities. In fact, you’re right – it’s Delicious!
